Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) uses gentle electrical impulses to interrupt pain signals before they reach the brain. You trial the therapy for a week before committing — if it doesn't help, nothing permanent has been done.

What the visit looks like

1. 1

   A 5–7 day trial with thin temporary leads placed through a needle — no incision — lets you test-drive the therapy at home.

2. 2

   If your pain drops meaningfully during the trial, a small permanent device is implanted under the skin in a brief outpatient procedure.

3. 3

   Modern systems are rechargeable or long-life, MRI-conditional, and controlled from a handheld remote.

Recovery & results

After implant, light activity restrictions for a few weeks let the leads settle. Most patients resume normal life quickly and adjust stimulation themselves as needed.
